PURG-O-MAT® VA PLUS

Automatic stainless steel air vent made of V4A

The PURG-O-MAT® VA PLUS has been specifically developed for applications requiring uniform, controlled air release at low to medium operating pressures. Its compact design, combined with high-quality stainless steel components, ensures high operational reliability and a long service life.

Key Features

  • Stainless steel housing 1.4571, laser-welded
  • New “balanced float” for uniform air release
  • Optimized air release pressure (2–4 bar)
  • Leak protection cap with hygroscopic discs
  • Integrated drip plate to prevent the pipette effect
  • Compact cylindrical design (height approx. 76 mm, diameter 44 mm)
  • Maintenance-friendly construction

Operating Principle

The PURG-O-MAT® VA PLUS operates with a stainless steel float featuring optimized balance, specifically designed for uniform air release. An integrated drip plate ensures reliable drainage of the housing and relieves the float mechanism when in the resting position.

Applications

  • Closed heating and cooling systems
  • Solar installations
  • Closed water circuits
  • Systems with stainless steel components
  • Installations with moderate operating pressures

Characteristic Curve:

  • The air flow rate increases steadily with rising pressure up to approx. 3 bar
  • Maximum air release capacity at approx. 0.98 Nm³/h
  • From approx. 3 bar onwards, the flow rate decreases again
  • Typical characteristic of a controlled high-speed air vent, optimized for uniform air release in the low to medium pressure range

Optional accessories

Concentric Sealing Ring (Optional)

The concentric sealing ring provides an additional metal-elastomer seal at the vent’s connection thread, enhancing installation and operational reliability—especially in applications with frequent assembly and disassembly.

Features:

  • For G 3/8″ connection thread
  • Sealing ring made of FKM (Viton®)
  • Support ring made of stainless steel 1.4404
  • Improves tightness independently of thread sealing
  • Reduces installation effort and risk of incorrect assembly

Vacuum Breaker (instead of leak protection cap)

The vacuum breaker prevents air from being drawn into the vent under negative pressure or during system cooling phases. It enhances operational reliability, particularly in systems with fluctuating pressure conditions.

Features:

  • Made of brass (MS58), nickel-plated
  • Prevents air ingress under vacuum conditions
  • Improves functional and operational reliability of the air vent
  • Especially recommended for systems with significant temperature fluctuations
  • Available as a factory-installed option
  • Leak protection with hygroscopic discs that automatically seal in case of liquid discharge

NONAIR® Microbubble Air Separator (Recommended)

The NONAIR® microbubble air separator removes even the finest air and gas bubbles from circulating media that cannot be captured by conventional air vents alone. In combination with an automatic air vent, it ensures complete and long-term air removal from the system.

Features:

  • Separation of micro and macro air bubbles
  • Negligible pressure drop (approx. 50 Pa at 1 m/s)
  • No restriction of flow rate
  • Flow direction can be selected as required
  • Fully made of stainless steel (DIN 1.4404)
  • Maintenance-free and resistant to clogging

Ball Valve / Shut-off Valve (Recommended)

The use of a ball valve installed below the air vent is strongly recommended to enable maintenance, inspection, or replacement without the need to drain the system. This allows service work to be carried out safely, quickly, and efficiently.

Features:

  • Shut-off valve for air vent connections
  • Made of stainless steel AISI 316 (CrNiMo 18-10)
  • PTFE seal for high temperature and media resistance
  • Orifice: 10 mm
  • Pressure rating: PN 10 at 160 °C
  • Simplifies maintenance, replacement, and inspection of the air vent
  • Increases the operational reliability of the overall system
  • Suitable for applications with elevated temperature requirements
